Drilling on the Edge

With funding and support from the National Science Foundation, US Ice Drilling Program, and Korea Polar Research Institute, Dr. Neff and his international team of researchers honed in on the incredibly remote and stormy Amundsen Sea region of Antarctica. Typically, ice drilling occurs more inland and studies hundreds of thousands of years into the past. But this mission looks at the recent past and forward into the future to study the enormous impacts melting glaciers may have on rising sea levels in the coming decades.
