Forests in northern Minnesota had been free of earthworms until exotic European earthworms were introduced. A new study by Profs. Kyungsoo Yoo and Satoshi Ishii and others show that the invasive earthworms alter soil microbiomes and ecosystem functioning, especially for nitrogen cycling.
