Transforming landscapes: Cultural change through partnerships
Efforts to diversify STEM disciplines often focus on recruitment, yet exclusionary behaviors create hostile working and learning environments that affect retention. I present findings from two comprehensive workplace climate surveys distributed through six professional organizations in the earth and environmental sciences and present strategies for building interdisciplinary and inter-institutional partnerships for cultural change. Specifically, I discuss complementary approaches from the ADVANCEGeo Partnership and the Humanities Education for Anti-Racism Literacy in the Sciences and Medicine projects.
